Welcome to the first ever ICCM RHOK event!

The International Conference of Crisis Mappers unites mappers, humanitarians, technologists and more. Random Hacks of Kindness is an event and community that brings together similar minds for quick sprint-like “hacks” aimed at solving real world problems. The event will be held on October 13 -14, 2012 at George Washington University. The goal is to unite the hacking (technical communities) with the humanitarian communities.


How to ICCM RHOK
This hackathon follows the Random Hacks of Kindness model. We will curate the challenge definitions as per the criteria below. RHOK participants will collaborate with the challenge owners during the event to build a prototype or address an issue. Items that are deemed sustainable may be continued by the teams with the support of the greater digital humanitarian communities.

About Registration
Registration for ICCM RHOK is free and separate from the other ICCM events. While it will be hosted in the same location, this simultaneous event is focused on making and doing Hacks + maps and more. We’ve set up a number of free tickets for you to grab. Please pick one ticket based on your best-fit skills. This will help us in team formation and recruitment.


About the Challenge Submissions
ICCM RHOK Challenge Submissions will be accepted from August 29 - September 27, 2012 18:00 UTC. Our problem curation team will review and announce the full list by October 3, 2012.  Each challenge submission requires project owners to be available in person or virtually for the duration of the event. The final ICCM RHOK Challenge Submissions will be published on the Crisismappers site.

The criteria for acceptance of hacks includes:

• relevant to the ICCM community
• Topics focused on either maps or humanitarian-focused hacks
• Clear problem statement and set of tasks
• Plausible for a weekend hackathon

Location:

Marvin Center @ George Washington University. The Marvin Center is located on the corner of H and 21st Streets, NW, in Washington, DC. Please meet us on the 3rd floor of the Marvin Center when you arrive on Saturday.

The Marvin Center is located on the corner of H and 21st Streets, NW.  The main entrance is located on 21st Street. The physical address is 800 21st Street, NW. When you enter the building via the main entrance, go up the stairs to the elevators and take to the 3rd floor where our registration desk is located.
